Did you ever think you'd race explosive RC cars in Call of Duty Mobile? Me neither, but here we are. Call of Duty Mobile Season 7: Phantom Current has just launched on July 30, 2025, and it looks like it’ll be one of the game's freshest updates to date.
Off the back of Gundams Arrive in Season 6, this new season has players diving deep (literally, the theme is high-seas) into new modes, a Gulag for the first time on mobile, a boatload of new weapons and skins, plus a crossover event you’d never see coming. Also, see how this season ties into Africa’s biggest CODM tournament.
Let’s have a crack at what’s in store, shall we?
High-Seas Theme and Nautical Battle Pass Rewards
Season 7’s “Phantom Current” theme is all about the deep blue. The new Battle Pass is loaded with nautical-themed skins and gear. Even the guns have oceanic flair. On the free track of the Battle Pass, the star is the MG 82 LMG, a light machine gun with a blistering fire rate and huge magazine. There’s also the new Bomb Drone scorestreak (Tier 14) that lets you pilot an explosive drone from above. It’s a blast (literally) to use in objective modes, although be warned: you’re vulnerable while controlling it.
Paid Battle Pass users get even more watery warfare goodies. The premium tiers introduce four new operator skins: Farah – Stealth, Kreuger – Deep Six, Ethan – AQUA-44, and Stone – Painkiller, each decked out in dive suits and tactical gear. They honestly look ready for a covert ops mission in Atlantis. My personal favorite is Farah – Stealth; as a Modern Warfare fan, seeing her in CODM is awesome. The premium Battle Pass also brings a haul of ocean-themed weapon blueprints, like the KN-44 – Angler and Peacekeeper MK2 – Technautilus, capped off by the MG 82 – Dreadnought at Tier 50 (which gives the new LMG a slick barnacle-encrusted look). It’s one of the cooler Battle Pass lineups in recent memory, especially if you’re into naval vibes.
Not to be overlooked, there’s a new Battle Pass Subscription option (Ground Forces) for those who go the extra mile. This season’s Ground Forces rewards include the Zane – Monsoon Season operator skin and an SKS sniper blueprint “Carrier Strike”. Sub members also enjoy a 10% XP boost and some discount coupons, which is a nice little boost if you’re grinding hard every month. Overall, Phantom Current’s Battle Pass feels fresh; the underwater theme is a nice change of pace from the typical military fare, and even if you stick to free tiers, you’ll get some solid new toys to play with.
New Multiplayer Mode: RC-XD Racing in “Mini Mayhem”

Season 7 introduces Mini Mayhem, a wild new multiplayer mode where players race RC-XD explosive cars instead of firing guns. If there ever was a campaign for a Mario Kart x Call of Duty collab, this may just be the next best thing to that. You can jump into races solo or with up to 8 friends on several maps converted into racetracks. The goal: speed through multiple laps and be first to the finish line. Your RC car even has a nitro boost; just be careful with the corners and jumps; if your tiny car tumbles off the track into a “death zone,” it will blow up and force you to respawn at the last checkpoint.
Winners of the race earn leaderboard points and even unlock special vehicle skins for your RC-XD. If you need a break from sweaty ranked matches, grabbing an RC car and tearing around a track is a refreshing way to blow off steam (literally, when someone detonates).
As if racing wasn’t enough, multiplayer also gets a new gameplay twist with the Skill Overdrive Wildcard. This Wildcard lets you equip an extra Operator Skill in your loadout, essentially giving you two specialist abilities instead of one. Sounds OP, right? Well, there’s a catch: using Skill Overdrive comes at a cost, likely a slower charge rate or some other balancing factor (the devs hinted it “may upset the delicate balance” if used recklessly. Dual Operator Skills could lead to crazy combos, and might even turn some matches into pure chaos. We’ll have to see if it becomes meta or if its drawbacks keep it in check. Either way, it’s another layer of strategy for those who want to dive deep into loadout customization.
Battle Royale Update: Gulag Arrives in CODM

Battle Royale fans, rejoice: the Gulag is finally here in COD Mobile. For the first time ever, eliminated players have a chance to fight their way back into the match via a Gulag duel, just like in Warzone. Here’s how it works in CODM: if you get taken out on the Isolated map, you aren’t sent to the lobby immediately. Instead, you’re transported to a 1v1 Gulag arena, chained fences and all. You’ll go one-on-one against another downed player; the winner earns a redeploy back into the BR match, while the loser is out for good (unless a teammate buys their revive tag later).
The Gulag in mobile is a limited-time event for Season 7, so it’s not permanent (yet). Each player gets one free Gulag attempt per match by default, and you can actually earn additional tries by finding Gulag Tickets at buy stations on the map. That adds an interesting tactical element: teams might prioritize cash and buy stations, knowing they can secure extra Gulag chances for squadmates. It’s bound to be that high-stakes moment that BR has been missing in CODM until now.
Seasonal Events and Crossover Collab
Every new season brings special events, and Phantom Current is no exception. One of the marquee events this time is the Season 7 Challenge Pass. It’s a bit like a mini battle pass that runs alongside the season. By completing various missions (Standard, Special, and Elite tasks), you earn Challenge Tokens to spend in a special Exchange store. The more challenges you complete, the more tokens you get, and you can redeem them for summer-themed weapon skins and even an exclusive operator skin Soap – Toxic Splash (Soap literally looking toxic green) and other goodies. If you’re grinding daily, make sure to check the Challenge Pass tab and knock out those missions; it’s essentially free rewards for playing as you normally would, from camo series to a slick Tak-5 – Propeller tactical gadget skin.
Another cool addition is Secret Caches. We’ve had hidden cache crates in BR for a while, but now there’s a twist: a new Milestone system tied to opening these caches. The more caches you crack open throughout Season 7, the more milestone rewards you unlock. And the big prize? A legendary RUS-79U – Mystical Lamp SMG. Essentially, it’s a grindable legendary gun that free-to-play players can work towards by playing regularly and hunting caches. No need to drop money on a lucky draw for this one, which is a welcome move.

Perhaps the most unexpected event is the Girls’ Frontline collaboration. Yes, COD Mobile is crossing over with a tactical anime game! For those unfamiliar, Girls’ Frontline is a popular mobile game featuring anime-style characters based on firearms. As part of the collab, Season 7 has a dedicated free event called “Finding Scylla” where you complete tasks (ranging from daily logins to BR-specific challenges) to earn themed rewards. These include some cool weapon skins with a colorful, anime flair – for example, there’s an Epic M16A4 skin inspired by Girls’ Frontline that you can earn without spending a dime.
New Mythic Operator & High-Seas Arsenal in the Store

The in-game store for Season 7 is stacked, headlined by one of the most badass characters I’ve seen in CODM: Dark Shepherd – Phantom. This is a Mythic Operator, meaning it’s a step above Legendary – ultra-rare with special effects. Dark Shepherd is basically a futuristic Grim Reaper, complete with black armored robes and a glowing red scythe as his signature melee weapon. The Mythic Draw not only gives you a chance at the Dark Shepherd operator, but also comes with two lethal weapon blueprints: the AS-VAL – Shadow Marksman (a sleek, deadly-looking rifle) and the Legendary Scythe – Soldering Edge melee. Dark Shepherd might be an instant favorite if you’re into the whole shadow warrior vibe.
If you’re lucky (or wealthy) enough to snag Dark Shepherd, there’s more: a Mythic upgrade path unlocks for him. This lets you further customize the operator with upgraded visuals, unique kill effects, custom reticles, and even a special BR lobby appearance. Essentially, you can make the Mythic even more mythic. It’s a serious flex, but of course, it requires pumping additional resources into upgrades.
One more thing: The Carry1st Shop is running a Double CP event during Season 7. That means whenever you purchase COD Points, you get double the amount credited – basically 2-for-1 on CP. If you’re thinking of buying the Battle Pass or splurging on a Mythic Draw, this is the best time to get value.
There’s also a 10% discount on CODM top-ups and Battle Pass purchases right now, on top of any in-game bonuses. With double CP in effect and deals like that, you can stretch your budget a bit further.
Competitive Scene Tie-In: Carry1st Africa Cup 2025

While we’re all busy unlocking skins and trying new modes, it’s worth noting that Phantom Current drops at a crucial time for the African CODM competitive scene. The Carry1st Africa Cup 2025 – the biggest Call of Duty Mobile tournament in the region – is in its final stages right now. Regional finals across Africa have been underway through July, and the Grand Finals are set for August 30–31, 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria.
It’s not often we get a major live esports event on home soil for CODM. The top teams from across seven regions in Africa will be battling it out for a $15,000 prize pool and, more importantly, a slot in the CODM World Championship 2025. That’s huge – it means one of our local teams could end up on the global stage competing for the million-dollar world finals.
So, how does Season 7 connect? Well, for one, the timing means these teams will likely be playing on the Phantom Current update during the climax of the tournament. I can only imagine the strategies forming around the new content. For one thing, the general weapon balance changes and new Meta shifts from this update will affect how pros approach their games. Season 6 alone brought a bunch of weapon balance tweaks; buffs to guns like the AK-47 and nerfs to a few others, so the meta in the Africa Cup might shift just in time for the finals.
More broadly, Season 7’s arrival has injected extra hype into the community at the perfect moment. A lot of us will be grinding ranked to test the new season’s best guns, which indirectly helps our competitive players scrim and stay sharp. And with the Carry1st Africa Cup being an official qualifier for the World Championship (for the first time ever, there’s a real buzz that Africa has a shot on the world stage.
Final Thoughts

All in all, Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 – Phantom Current might just shape up to be one of the most memorable seasons yet. It’s got a bit of everything: a funky new racing mode that shows CODM isn’t afraid to have fun, a long-awaited Gulag feature that ups the intensity for BR, tons of thematic content in the Battle Pass and store, and even a dash of anime crossover flavor.
Season 7 is here, and it’s a current (pun intended) of change. Will you be trying it out? Let us know what you feel about this new season!
