It’s one thing to play PUBG Mobile on your own in your room. It’s another thing entirely when you’ve got an entire hall full of people doing it with you, a few hundred chicken snack packs in hand, uninterrupted WiFi flowing, and branded merch to boot. That’s exactly what went down over the past month as Carry1st brought PUBG Mobile to life in four universities across Nigeria.

If you ever wondered what happens when mobile gaming jumps off the screen and into real life, we’ve got your answer. Here’s what went down during the PUBGM campus drop tour across Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt and what made this activation so effective.

The Idea Behind the Tour

The concept was simple: show up where students already hang out, make it easy to jump into PUBG Mobile matches, and turn it into an event everyone would want to be part of. Free WiFi meant new players could download on the spot. For those already in the game, it was a chance to squad up and win rewards. And yes, the “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” theme came to life with actual chicken snack packs at every stop.

Tour Recap: What Went Down at Each Uni

1. UNILAG (University of Lagos) – July 22nd – King Jaja Hall

This was the first stop, and the energy was already up from the jump.

King Jaja Hall became a full PUBGM arena. Students rolled in by the dozens; some already had the app, some downloaded it right there using the free internet provided. The Carry1st crew had branded stands, banners, and people actively helping with game installs. You’d see one person get the “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” snack pack, and immediately, three of their friends would follow suit.

When it came down to how well the chicken snack theme resonated with the crowd, the only word to describe this would be “genius”. It naturally tied in with the game’s most iconic line and felt fun, not forced.

Speaking with Michael*, a 300-level student from the faculty of Engineering, here’s a one-shot of the energy at King Jaja Hall: “I’m more of a sports sim guy so I only came for the food [to be honest], but after trying out PUBG Mobile with a couple of my guys, I think I’ve been hooked. It’s [way] better than I thought!”

2. UNIABUJA – July 24th – New Boys Hostel

The atmosphere at UNIABUJA brought a more laid-back but very interactive vibe.

Set up right at the New Boys Hostel, students hung around in clusters; some playing solo matches, others forming squads. Population-wise, the campus isn’t as crowded as UNILAG, so the engagement here definitely felt a bit tighter. This meant there was less of a rush and more conversations between the attendees.

We saw a mix of new and existing players sharing gameplay tips, teasing each other mid-match, and even recording bits of their games for TikTok. Carry1st reps also shared info about future giveaways and how to join the Nigerian PUBG Mobile community online.

There was even some light content creation happening; a few student vloggers covered the event live, while others took turns filming friends during gameplay and unboxing the reward packs. The community feel here was strong, and the PUBGM brand was front and center.

3. LASU (Lagos State University) – August 1st – Student Arcade

As expected, and to no one’s grand surprise, LASU brought the vibe. And probably brought down the roof too.

This was more of a social hangout than anything. With the event held at the student arcade, it became a hotspot. There was music playing nearby, people mingling, gaming stations constantly busy, and lots of laughs. At some point, it felt like every person there had PUBG Mobile open on their phone.

Our most memorable moment was when a student won a team match right on the spot and got a  Chicken Dinner, then ran a victory lap around the tent.

Carry1st also handed out exclusive merch here: caps and branded t-shirts, which turned into low-key collectibles. If you didn’t get there early, you definitely missed out on all of the goodies!

4. UNIPORT (University of Port Harcourt) – August 7th – Sports Institute

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) wrapped up the tour, and, being the wrap-up to the campaign, they did not disappoint.

Perhaps word-of-mouth contributed to the hype because the students here had already heard about the previous stops from friends online, so they came prepared. The students showed up in full squads, their phones charged, and with the hottest FPS shooter already installed.

Here’s a fun fact for you to take home: One squad of four who’d never played PUBGM before ended up playing for over an hour, trash-talking each other the whole way. That’s the kind of engagement you can’t fake.

Our Key Takeaways From The Campaign

So how did a game activation like this stand out?

Simple Incentive, Low Barrier

You show the app = you get free stuff. Done. No confusing sign-up forms. No emails. No scan-and-wait mechanics.

Free Internet Was a Smart Move

Data in Nigeria is still a barrier for many, and Carry1st solved that instantly. People could download the game, update it, or jump into matches without stress.

Community Energy Was Everything

Rather than pushing leaderboards or high-stakes contests, the focus was on casual fun. That made it more inviting, especially for people who hadn’t played before.

Offline Still Wins in Africa

It’s easy to think every campaign has to be digital-first, but this showed how physical presence builds stronger memory. When you eat, laugh, and play in real life, the brand sticks harder.

What This Means for the Industry

Gaming in Africa isn’t some future trend; it’s right now. And Carry1st is showing how to meet players where they are.

Marketers looking at African Gen Z need to understand that attention doesn’t live online alone. You’ve got to step out, create frictionless experiences, and offer real-world value. You can’t just talk community: you have to build it.

Final Words

The PUBG Mobile Campus Drop by Carry1st was a smart, human campaign built on connection. From the chicken packs to the free data to the shared joy of landing that final kill, it created moments that students won’t forget anytime soon.

If you missed it this time, don’t worry. Judging by the buzz, we wouldn’t be surprised if the next tour’s already in the works.
