Sigurd is one of the formidable new Local Legend bosses in Genshin Impact’s Nod-Krai region. But believe it or not, a clever trick can take him down in seconds by literally drowning the boss. Not every boss fight in Genshin Impact needs to be a damage-dealing, food-chugging, resin-wasting sweat fest. Sometimes, all you need is a little creativity... and a body of water.

In this guide, we’ll break down how one player pulled off this wild strategy using just the Anemo Traveler and how you can replicate it for an easy win.

The Rise of Local Legends in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact has never been short on memorable enemies. Over the past few years, players have battled everything from lowly Hilichurls to notorious Fatui Harbingers like Childe and Scaramouche. With the recent Fontaine update, HoYoverse introduced Local Legends: unique overworld bosses that appear only in specific locations and reward you with achievements and loot when defeated. These bosses aren’t your run-of-the-mill monsters; each Local Legend is designed to be a tough challenge that tests your skills. In fact, the game even gives special Achievement rewards for taking them down.

The latest region, Nod-Krai, expands on this concept with even more formidable foes. Update 6.0 (dubbed “Luna I”) added the Nod-Krai area packed with fresh content, including new characters and new Local Legend bosses. One of these new bosses, Sigurd, quickly gained a reputation as a brutal fight. Found on Lempo Isle in Nod-Krai, Sigurd is part of the “Valiant Chronicles” series of Local Legends. He’s an Electro-affiliated warrior with two challenging phases, high HP, and some hard-hitting moves that can one-shot unprepared players.

Normally, defeating Sigurd requires a well-built team, good dodging skills, and a solid strategy to handle his second-phase summons and his deadly Demonsbane Strike attack. Many players have struggled with this encounter until one creative fan discovered an exploit that makes beating Sigurd almost laughably easy.

Step-by-Step Guide to Outsmarting Sigurd

A Genshin player on Reddit (user Mogoru_z4n) shocked the community by showing that Sigurd can be defeated using only the Anemo Traveler – the starter character most players get at the beginning of the game.

The trick? Lure Sigurd close to a body of water and then send him flying into the lake with the Traveler’s Anemo powers. Here’s how you can pull off this clever strategy step by step:

  1. Bring Anemo Traveler as your main (or only) character: The Anemo Traveler’s Elemental Burst (Gust Surge) is key to this trick. Make sure your Traveler is in your party and has their burst skill charged up. (You can use other party members too, but the original player did it with only Traveler to prove a point.)

  2. Find Sigurd’s arena on Lempo Isle: Sigurd spawns at his gravestone on the edge of Lempo Isle after you complete the quest “The Bell of Mourning Echoes.” His arena is near the coastline, which is perfect for what we need. Before engaging, take note of the nearby water; that’s your ticket to an easy kill.

  3. Lure Sigurd toward the water: Start the fight and get Sigurd’s attention. Position yourself so that there’s deep water behind you. Sigurd has a dash attack (a lunging strike) that you can use to your advantage. Move around until he charges at you in the direction of the water. You want him to end up as close to the shoreline as possible.

  4. Use the Traveler’s Elemental Burst at the right moment: The instant Sigurd is near the water’s edge (for example, right after he finishes a dash and is at the coast), unleash the Anemo Traveler’s burst. The tornado from the burst will suck in nearby enemies. Because Sigurd isn’t anchored in place at that moment, the gust can fling Sigurd backwards straight into the sea. Timing is crucial here, so try to activate the burst while Sigurd is recovering from his dash so he doesn’t jump away.

  5. Watch Sigurd drown almost instantly: This is the most satisfying part. Once Sigurd’s character model goes into deep water, he drowns in a second or two and dies immediately. You don’t have to whittle down his enormous health or deal with his annoying second phase at all. The boss just… sinks. Defeating him this way will still count as a win, granting you the usual drops and the achievement for killing Sigurd.

Congratulations, you’ve just cheesed one of the toughest bosses in Nod-Krai!

This strategy completely skips the normal battle mechanics. Sigurd usually has a second phase where he becomes even more dangerous (entering a “Grief-Stricken” state and summoning Wild Hunt minions to heal himself), but if he drowns, none of that even begins. It’s an incredibly quick and safe kill once you pull it off correctly. You could be adventuring with a low-level Traveler and still take down a boss that normally demands a high-level team.

Pro Tip: It may take a couple of tries to get the positioning and timing right. If Sigurd isn’t close enough to the water or if he resists the pull, he might not fall in. Stay patient and keep luring him to the shore after each attack until you get the perfect opening. Also, make sure the water is deep; shallow water won’t drown him. Once he’s in deep enough, it’s game over for Sigurd.

Why This Trick Works: Exploiting Genshin’s Drowning Mechanic

You might be wondering, “Wait, enemies can drown in Genshin Impact?” Yes; it’s a little-known quirk of the game. In Genshin Impact, most creatures cannot swim. If a standard enemy falls into deep water, it will flail for a moment and then instantly die (apparently, even Hilichurls never learned how to swim).

It’s a mechanic players have used since the early days of the game to dispose of foes by knocking or baiting them into lakes and rivers. However, bosses and other large enemies are typically immune to this fate. Either they’re programmed not to be movable by player abilities, or they simply don’t take drowning damage at all. We’ve never been able to make an Oceanid or Stormterror drown, for example.

This is why the Sigurd trick is so surprising and unique. Sigurd can be moved by the Anemo Traveler’s burst and has no special protection against deep water. Essentially, the game treats him like a regular enemy when it comes to the swimming rule. It’s likely an oversight or just an unusual design choice for this particular Local Legend. Whatever the case, we certainly aren’t complaining.

It’s worth noting that not every Anemo ability will replicate this trick. Some players have tested other characters like Jean (who can normally yeet enemies with her Gale Blade skill) to see if she can toss Sigurd. So far, those attempts haven’t worked; Sigurd might be too heavy for anything except the Traveler’s burst.

The Traveler’s tornado seems to have just the right amount of pull and area of effect to get the job done. So if you’re attempting this, stick with the Anemo Traveler for now. After all, who would’ve guessed the starter character would be the MVP for a high-level boss fight in 2025?

New Challenges (and Tools) in the Nod-Krai Update

The Nod-Krai region isn’t just about Sigurd – it delivered a ton of new content for Genshin Impact players. In Version 6.0, three new characters were introduced (Lauma, Aino, and Flins), each bringing fresh abilities and playstyles to experiment with. There are also multiple Local Legends roaming the land besides Sigurd.

For example, players have reported taking on the Crab Tsar, a giant crustacean boss, and Raskolnikov, another formidable foe in the “Valiant Chronicles” series. These bosses continue the trend of challenging overworld encounters that reward exploration and creative combat tactics.

If you’re venturing into Nod-Krai, make sure you’re prepared. Even with tricks up your sleeve, it helps to have your characters leveled and appropriately geared. This region’s world quests (like “The Bell of Mourning Echoes” needed to unlock Sigurd) and world bosses can be challenging if you go in under-leveled.

Upgrade your weaponry, load up on healing items, and consider which characters might counter each boss’s element and mechanics. And if you’re eager to pull the new characters like Lauma or power up your team quickly, remember that you can always grab some extra Genesis Crystals to boost your resources. For a convenient top-up, the Carry1st Shop offers direct purchase of Genesis Crystals, a handy way to get those Primogems and level-up materials you might need for tackling Nod-Krai’s challenges. A little preparation (and maybe a little shopping) can go a long way in making your journey smoother.

Creativity Triumphs Over Power

Facing off against a boss like Sigurd can be daunting, but this episode just goes to show how creativity and game knowledge can trump raw stats. Instead of grinding for hours or waiting for the perfect gacha pull, a smart strategy turned a nightmare fight into a cakewalk.

Personally, I find it awesome that even five years into Genshin Impact’s lifespan, players are still discovering cheeky new ways to overcome challenges. So if you’re struggling with a tough enemy in Teyvat, take a step back and think outside the box. The solution might be something unconventional (and a little bit hilarious) like drowning a fearsome boss in his own backyard lake.

In the end, whether you choose to battle Sigurd honorably with your strongest team or cheese him with the Anemo Traveler’s whirlwind, the important thing is to have fun. Good luck, Traveler, and enjoy your adventures in Nod-Krai!

FAQs

Q1: Where can I find Sigurd in Genshin Impact?

Sigurd is a Local Legend boss in the Nod-Krai region. You’ll find him on Lempo Isle, near the coastline, after unlocking the quest “The Bell of Mourning Echoes.”

Q2: What is the easiest way to beat Sigurd in Genshin Impact?

The easiest method is to use the Anemo Traveler’s Elemental Burst to push Sigurd into the nearby water. Once submerged, he drowns instantly, skipping his second phase and making the fight trivial.

Q3: Why does the drowning trick work on Sigurd?

In Genshin Impact, most enemies can’t swim and drown in deep water. Unlike other bosses, Sigurd isn’t immune to displacement. The Anemo Traveler’s burst has enough pull to push him into the sea.

Q4: Can other characters push Sigurd into the water?

Tests show that most Anemo characters (like Jean or Kazuha) can’t consistently displace Sigurd. The Anemo Traveler’s Burst seems uniquely effective for this trick.

Q5: Do you still get rewards if Sigurd drowns?

Yes. Defeating Sigurd this way grants the same drops and the achievement as a normal kill, but with much less effort.

Q6: What other Local Legends are in Nod-Krai?

Besides Sigurd, Nod-Krai features bosses like the Crab Tsar and Raskolnikov, all part of the Valiant Chronicles series of Local Legends.
