As Diablo 4’s Season 9 approaches, players on the Public Test Realm (PTR) have discovered a game-changing new ability: a teleport spell combo that lets characters zip to enemies infinitely fast. Dubbed a potential “speedhack,” this teleport power enables near-permanent teleportation for all classes, dramatically accelerating dungeon runs and farming.
 

The catch? It’s likely unintendedly strong. While the Season 9 content (titled Sins of the Horadrim) is still in testing, the community is already buzzing about the teleport trick, hoping Blizzard keeps it or bracing for a nerf before the season goes live in early July. The developers had promised improvements to make solo play more fun this season, and this teleport ability, if it remains, would certainly deliver on the fun (if not the balance).

Here’s what you need to know


In Diablo 4’s ninth season, players gain access to Horadric Spellcrafting, a new feature allowing them to create custom spells by combining magical components. On the PTR, theorycrafters quickly found one particular combination that essentially broke the speed limit of the game. By selecting a Catalyst called Propulsion (base spell effect: movement), infusing it with “Floaty Bubble” and “Bloody Charm” Arcana, players can create a teleport spell that has negligible cooldown and even resets itself under certain conditions. 


In practical terms, this means a Barbarian, for example, can bind this Propulsion-based spell to their basic attack (like Lunging Strike), and suddenly they’re blinking across the battlefield continuously as long as there are enemies to target.


A well-known Diablo content creator, Rob2628, showcased this on video; characters flickering from foe to foe in split-seconds, clearing zones at breakneck pace. The key interaction is that when an enemy under 20% health is hit by the teleport’s blast (enhanced by the Bloody Charm infusion), it executes the enemy and resets the teleport ability’s cooldown. 


Essentially, kill an enemy with the teleport hit, and you can teleport again immediately; chain this across a pack and you’re basically Nightcrawler bouncing around infinitely. With even moderate enemy density, players can remain in a state of constant teleport, which trivializes traversal and makes “speed farming” content like Nightmare Dungeons insanely efficient.


The community reaction has been a mix of glee and disbelief. Diablo 4 has had its share of mobility skills, but nothing this universally powerful. Past seasons gave specific classes movement boosts (e.g., Season 1 had a Barber heart for Necromancers that zoomed them around a bit), but this is an all-class, all-build boon. 


On Reddit and forums, players joked that it feels like an in-game “speedhack” or an intentional cheat code. The discovery aligns with a note from Blizzard: they had mentioned Season 9 would let players “craft their own spells” and specifically one dev hinted at improving how solo players can zip through content. They likely did not anticipate testers finding such an optimal combo so fast.


Now the big question: will Blizzard let this ride into the live season? Historically, whenever Diablo’s PTR yields something that drastically upsets balance (especially making things too easy), Blizzard tends to dial it back. In fact, the PTR patch notes already caution that everything is subject to change. Community figures have even preemptively pleaded for the addition not to be nerfed, enjoying the feeling of blazing through content after previous seasons were criticized for slow grinds. 


This puts Blizzard in a tight spot: leave the combo as is, and Season 9 could be a wild romp (perhaps too easy, but joyous); or nerf it, and risk player disappointment after they’ve seen the potential.


As of the latest PTR patch, Blizzard had not yet disabled it. They might be gathering data on just how overpowered it is. Some players pointed out that using a controller with auto-targeting on PC makes the teleport even more ridiculous; the game basically warps you to the next enemy automatically, turning you into a homing missile. In group play, the teleport trick could allow one player to essentially solo streak ahead through a dungeon while others struggle to keep up. It’s the very definition of something likely to get balanced.

Final Thoughts


While this is a very specific gameplay quirk in one game, it does highlight a broader design and community relationship issue: how to handle fun, unintended mechanics in live service games. On one hand, giving players powerful tools (even if unplanned) can create great short-term goodwill and excitement. 


Diablo 4 is nearly a year old now (launched mid-2024), and some have grown weary of the grind, an insanely fast teleport mechanic spices things up and could re-engage lapsed players for Season 9. The risk, however, is that it trivializes the challenge, possibly shortening the season’s longevity or undermining build diversity (why walk when you can teleport?). Blizzard’s eventual action on this will be telling. If they leave it largely intact, it suggests a shift toward prioritizing player joy over strict balance; something players often call for. If they nerf it heavily, it will be in line with Blizzard’s cautious balance-first approach, but could dampen enthusiasm.


From a design perspective, the underlying system – allowing players to craft spells – is a fascinating development for Diablo 4. It edges the game closer to Diablo 3’s wild seasonal themes (which often had game-breaking fun mechanics). That Blizzard is experimenting with such freedom in Diablo 4 shows an evolution. They launched the game quite conservative and grounded; by Season 9 they’re letting players essentially design spells that can break the game. This could hint at a long-term strategy to keep the game fresh by gradually introducing more extreme mechanics, learning from community feedback on what’s fun versus what’s too far. The teleport saga might encourage them to iterate rather than eliminate; perhaps keeping a milder version of the teleport in live servers to give that taste of power without completely unhinging content.
