Grab your energy drinks and clear your class schedule; PUBG Mobile is storming South African campuses this month. The first-ever PUBG Mobile Campus Championship South Africa (PMCC ZA) is turning student gamers’ battleground dreams into reality, with over R30,000 in prizes on the line.
From Johannesburg to Cape Town, university halls are about to echo with the sound of virtual gunfire as players compete not just for cash, but for glory and bragging rights in the PUBG Mobile South Africa scene. Whether you’re a casual player who jams games at res or a hardcore mobile esports grinder, this campus gaming championship has a spot for you.
5 Campus Qualifiers, 3 Cities, 1 Goal
The road to PUBG Mobile glory starts on campus. PMCC ZA is hitting five universities across three cities in South Africa, bringing the tournament directly to students’ doorstep. Each on-site qualifier is a mini esports festival; we’re talking live matches, mini-games, merch giveaways, and a chance to meet fellow PUBG Mobile fans in your city. Here’s where and when you can drop in:
- 17 Oct – Johannesburg: University of Johannesburg (APK Campus, Squash Courts)
- 18 Oct – Pretoria: Belgium Campus iTversity
- 23 Oct – Cape Town: Rise Student Accommodation (Observatory)
- 24 Oct – Cape Town: Stellenbosch University (Neelsie Cinema)
- 25 Oct – Cape Town: WeThinkCode_ (Cape Town campus)
Each campus event kicks off around 10:00 AM with fun challenges and community activities to get you warmed up. The serious action starts at 1:00 PM, when players dive into five PUBG Mobile lobbies competing for that illustrious “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.”
In every lobby, the Top 3 players will punch their ticket to the Grand Finale, and the 1st-place player wins R400 cash on the spot. Even if you don’t place in the top spots, don’t slip back to class early; there are exclusive PUBG Mobile merch prizes and even free UC (in-game currency) up for grabs through side mini-games and lucky draws at the venue.
And here’s the best part: entry is completely free. You heard that right – no fees, no purchase necessary. Just show up with your phone, PUBG Mobile installed and updated, and your game face on. (Oh, and make sure you’re 18 or older; the tournament is open to all South African players 18+, including non-students, as long as you bring a valid ID for age verification.)
Last Chance Online Qualifier
What if you can’t make it to any of the campus events, or you tried but didn’t quite hit the mark? Don’t sweat it, there’s an Online Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) to keep your PUBG Mobile dreams alive. The online qualifier is essentially a do-or-die shot for anyone who couldn’t attend in person or fell short at a campus qualifier.
It’s scheduled for 1 November (14:00), and it’s open to all eligible players nationwide to join remotely. Sign-ups for the Online LCQ are already live on the official ACGL tournament page, so if you’re keen on securing a Grand Finale spot from the comfort of your own couch, this is your moment. No travel, no hassle; just bring your A-game and a solid internet connection.
Grand Finale – R20,000 Showdown
All roads (and drop zones) lead to the Grand Finale. On Sunday, 2 November 2025, the top players from each campus qualifier plus the online qualifier will face off in an epic online showdown to crown the PMCC ZA champion. There’s R20,000 in the prize pool for the finale, so expect competition to be fierce.
In fact, the champion will take home a cool R10,000, with R5,000 for second place, R3,000 for third, and R2,000 for fourth. That kind of payday for a mobile gaming tournament is nothing to sneeze at, and more importantly, it’s proof that South African esports is leveling up. Every Grand Finale contender also gets an exclusive PUBG Mobile in-game avatar to show off their achievement, so even if you don’t snag the top cash prize, you’ll earn some bragging rights for your profile.
The Grand Finale will be held online (so everyone can watch and play safely), and will likely be streamed or covered on social media. It’s the climactic finish where campus legends are made. If you make it this far, you’ve already proven yourself as one of the best PUBG Mobile players in the country; now it’s time to show you can clutch the big one.
More Than Just a Tournament
One thing that sets the PUBG Mobile Campus Championship apart is its vibe. This isn’t a stuffy, super-serious esports arena where only the pros belong. It’s a celebration of PUBG Mobile in South Africa, happening in the very places students live and study every day. Expect a carnival of gaming culture at each campus stop: there will be fun live mini-games, team-based challenges, pop-up leaderboards, and exclusive giveaways for attendees. Whether you’re racking up kills in the qualifier lobbies or just cheering on your friends, you’re part of the community.
“I must say, there’s nothing like the energy of a live campus gaming event,” shares Tareeq Ismail, Associate Marketing Manager at Carry1st, who helped bring PMCC ZA to life. “This event is all about bringing students and gamers together to celebrate the spirit of competition, community, and fun. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a newcomer, PMCC ZA is your chance to shine.” In other words: don’t be shy if you’re not a pro; this championship is as much about making memories as it is about headshots and chicken dinners.
And for those hitting the qualifiers, it’s a great chance to meet the PUBG Mobile ZA community in person. Make new squadmates, learn some tips from more experienced players, or even scope out the competition. South Africa’s mobile gaming scene is growing, with events like this serving as a stepping stone for casual players into competitive mobile esports. Who knows, today’s campus champion could be tomorrow’s international esports star, and it all starts here at home.
Pro Tips for Participants
Ready to jump in? Here are a few tips to make the most of the PMCC ZA experience:
- Come prepared: Bring your phone (fully charged!), have PUBG Mobile updated to the latest version, and don’t forget a valid ID to prove you’re 18+. Pro tip: pack a power bank if you have one – you’ll be gaming for hours and you don’t want your battery dying mid-clutch.
- No entry fee, no excuses: It costs R0 to take part, so even if you’re a broke student, you have nothing to lose. Show up early to register on-site (registrations happen at the venue), and stick around for the free giveaways and mini-game contests even if you’re out of the main competition.
- Mind the schedule: The fun starts in the morning (10 AM) with side activities, but the actual tournament lobbies begin at 13:00. Make sure you’re signed up and ready by then; you don’t want to miss your drop because you were in the lunch line. Also, if you plan to play in the Online LCQ, sign up ahead of time on the ACGL site and be ready at 14:00 on 1 Nov.
- Bring your friends: Yes, the tournament matches are solo, but that doesn’t mean you have to go alone. Invite your gamer friends to come along, form a cheer squad for each other, and enjoy the event together. There are even some team-based fun matches and activities on campus you can join for kicks. Plus, everything’s better with friends: win or lose, you’ll have a blast.
- Keep it social: Be sure to share your highlights on social media using the official hashtag #PUBGmCCZA. Pulled off an insane 1v4 clutch or a picture-perfect grenade kill? Post that clip! Not only will you hype up your campus, but you might even get featured on official PUBG Mobile channels. It’s also a great way to connect with other players across the country who are following the event.
And if you’re looking to enter the lobby with some swag, maybe a cool outfit or enough UC to open a Victory Crate for good luck, we’ve got you covered. If you need UC, you can directly top up from the Carry1st Shop’s PUBG Mobile UC page for the best in-game currency deals available. A quick top-up can arm you with some extra parachute trail or a fancy skin to flex on campus (every bit of confidence helps when the competition is tough!).
