Who would emerge on top when Uganda’s best Call of Duty Mobile teams clashed for a shot at glory? The Carry1st Call of Duty Mobile Africa Cup 2025 Uganda regional qualifiers delivered the answer.

Five teams (Nondescript Gaming Africa, ExHavoc, 亗گky・PŘÎMĘŠ, SɅÍƝTS, and GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD) battled through group stages and intense playoffs in this esports tournament, all chasing a ticket to the Africa Cup finals.

In the end, Nondescript Gaming Africa proved unstoppable; not dropping a single map, and claimed the championship to represent Uganda in Lagos. Here’s how it went down.

Tournament Overview

This qualifier kicked off with a round-robin group stage from May 23–25 to determine seeding for playoffs. Each match was a Bo5 series encompassing Call of Duty Mobile’s core modes (Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control) as per official rules.

The group stage quickly revealed a hierarchy: Nondescript Gaming Africa dominated with a perfect record. Following behind were ExHavoc, Sky・Primes, and SɅÍƝTS (Saints), while GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD struggled against the more experienced squads.

All four top teams advanced to the playoffs (with one extra spot used to fill the bracket), seeded as #1 Nondescript, #2 ExHavoc, #3 Sky・Primes, #4 Saints, and #5 GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD. This set the stage for a dramatic double-elimination playoff bracket.

Winners Bracket Recap

Winners Round 1

The playoffs opened with Saints vs. GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD. Saints, a team known for its solid coordination, came out strong and swept GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD 3–0, quickly sending the underdogs to the lower bracket. The other top seeds; Nondescript Gaming Africa, ExHavoc, and Sky・Primes, all received byes through the first round due to the small bracket, allowing them to advance without playing an opening match.

Winners Round 2

In the upper bracket semifinals, the action heated up. First, Nondescript Gaming Africa faced Saints, and Nondescript continued their dominant run with another clean 3–0 victory. The top seed’s disciplined playstyle and sharp gunskill were on full display, as they outplayed Saints in every game mode.

Over on the other side, Sky・Primes delivered the surprise of the tournament by upsetting ExHavoc. Sky・Primes defeated the #2 seed ExHavoc in a stunning 3–0 sweep, proving that their third-place seeding maybe did not reflect their true potential. This upset knocked ExHavoc down to the lower bracket and sent Sky・Primes into the next round with momentum.

Winners Final (Round 3)

The upper bracket final saw Nondescript Gaming Africa vs. Sky・Primes; a showdown between the undefeated favorites and the surging dark horse. Nondescript’s experience and tactical prowess proved too much for Sky・Primes, as Nondescript earned yet another 3–0 sweep. With this win, Nondescript secured the first Grand Final slot, maintaining a perfect map record. Sky・Primes dropped to the lower bracket final, still with a chance to fight back.

Lower Bracket Recap

Meanwhile, the lower bracket was a gauntlet of do-or-die matches for teams hanging onto their tournament lives. Lower Round 1 had a peculiar start due to the bracket byes: GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD, after losing in the upper bracket, effectively advanced through the first lower round by default (no opponent was available). This gave them a brief lifeline, but a formidable challenge awaited next.

Lower Round 2

Fresh off the upset loss above, ExHavoc began its redemption run here against GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD. ExHavoc came out with something to prove and dominated GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD 3–0, eliminating the underdogs from the tournament. GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD, who had struggled to keep up all event, bowed out in fifth place.

In the other side of Lower Round 2, Saints received a bye, allowing them to advance to the next round without playing.

Lower Round 3

This match pitted Saints vs. ExHavoc, both teams hungry to stay in contention. Here, ExHavoc’s resilience shined. They swept Saints 3–0 in a one-sided affair, showing crisp rotations and clutch plays that Saints couldn’t counter. Saints were eliminated in fourth place, while ExHavoc moved on. The victory demonstrated ExHavoc’s ability to refocus after early setbacks; they were steadily gaining steam in the lower bracket.

Lower Final (Round 4)

The last hurdle in the lower bracket saw ExHavoc vs. Sky・Primes in a battle for a Grand Final berth. Sky・Primes were the team that had sent ExHavoc to the lower bracket, but this rematch turned out differently. ExHavoc, now playing at their peak, convincingly defeated Sky・Primes 3–0.

The #2 seed’s strategic adjustments paid off as they shut down Sky’s aggressive plays that had been so effective earlier. Sky・Primes, who had an impressive run including that huge upset, finished in third place. ExHavoc’s lower-bracket surge earned them a spot in the Grand Final and a chance to avenge their earlier loss to Nondescript.

Grand Final: Champion Crowned

The Grand Final was a best-of-7 showdown between Nondescript Gaming Africa (coming from the upper bracket without a loss) and ExHavoc (battle-tested from the lower bracket). With no bracket reset needed (Nondescript had not been beaten), the final series saw Nondescript given a map advantage and needing four map wins to clinch the title.

They wasted no time.

Nondescript Gaming Africa defeated ExHavoc 4–0 in the Grand Final, a dominant performance that left no doubt about their supremacy. Each game of the final showcased Nondescript’s superior coordination and map control; from out-rotating ExHavoc on Hardpoint to clutching rounds in Search & Destroy.

By the end of the night, Nondescript Gaming Africa stood as Uganda’s champions, completing the entire qualifier without dropping a single map in either group play or playoffs. ExHavoc settled for a well-earned runner-up finish.

Meet the Teams: Profiles and Highlights

Nondescript Gaming Africa

Nondescript Gaming Africa entered as favorites and lived up to the hype with an undefeated run. This squad exhibited remarkable consistency and teamwork. They tore through the group stage and playoffs, winning every match 3–0 – and even 4–0 in the final series.

Nondescript’s players seemed a step ahead in strategy, often securing early hill time in Hardpoint and playing disciplined defense in Search & Destroy. Their star power and synergy meant no opponent even took a map off them. This dominant showing cements Nondescript Gaming Africa as the team to beat in Uganda’s CODM esports scene. They now carry the pride of Uganda on their shoulders heading into the continental finals.

ExHavoc

ExHavoc showcased both skill and heart throughout the qualifiers. They started strong, finishing second in the group stage and earning a high seed. A surprising stumble in the upper bracket semifinals against Sky・Primes (a 0–3 loss) could have crushed their spirits, but ExHavoc bounced back with determination.

In the lower bracket, they went on a tear; sweeping GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD, Saints, and then Sky・Primes in succession. ExHavoc’s ability to adapt strategies and maintain composure under elimination pressure was impressive. By the time they reached the Grand Final, they had avenged their earlier loss and proven their resilience. Although Nondescript ultimately overpowered them in the final, ExHavoc’s runner-up performance confirmed that they are one of Uganda’s elite teams.

Sky・Primes

Sky・Primes turned heads during the Uganda qualifiers with a breakout performance. This team had a modest 2–2 record in groups, placing third, but they clearly learned and improved each match.

In the playoffs, Sky・Primes pulled off the tournament’s biggest upset by defeating ExHavoc 3–0 in the upper bracket. Their aggressive gameplay and confident slaying power caught ExHavoc off-guard in that match. Sky・Primes rode that momentum into the winners final, where they eventually fell to Nondescript’s experience.

In the lower final, a rematch with ExHavoc didn’t go their way as ExHavoc had adjusted and Sky・Primes lost 0–3. Still, Sky・Primes finish third overall, an excellent result for this contender.

Saints

Saints came into the qualifier as a solid squad and managed to secure a fourth-place finish. They made a strong first impression by sweeping GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD in their opening match 3–0. Saints’ teamwork and fundamentals were evident in that win, suggesting they were well-prepared.

However, as the competition ramped up, Saints struggled to get past the top-tier teams. They ran into Nondescript Gaming Africa in the winners semifinal and were handed a 0–3 defeat, then later faced ExHavoc in the lower bracket and fell 0–3 there as well.

Placing fourth in Uganda is still a respectable outcome. With more practice and perhaps strategic tweaks, Saints can come back stronger in future tournaments.

GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD

GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD entered the fray as underdogs and unfortunately finished in fifth place without a match win. They lost their first match to Saints 0–3, immediately dropping to the lower bracket. There, they did get a bye in the first round, but their run ended when ExHavoc swept them 3–0 in Lower Round 2.

Despite the tough results, GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD gained invaluable experience playing against Uganda’s top Call of Duty Mobile teams. Throughout their brief run, they displayed perseverance and a positive attitude, not giving up even when matches were one-sided. GRIM_REAPER_SQUAD will no doubt take the lessons learned here to improve their tactics and teamwork.

Road to Lagos: What’s Next?
