Does Ghana have what it takes to produce top-tier Call of Duty: Mobile talent? The answer is Yes! But you don’t have to take this writer’s words for it. The Carry1st Africa Cup 2025 Ghana Qualifiers proved any doubters wrong in dramatic fashion.

Over a few intense weeks in May and June, eleven teams from across Ghana battled online for a single coveted prize: a ticket to the Africa Cup finals in Lagos. The competition was fierce and the gameplay was intense. One team emerged head and shoulders above the rest. Aura 233, a squad that many had an eye on, delivered an absolutely flawless performance from start to finish, dominating every match and not dropping a single map along the way.

Let’s break down exactly what happened and how Aura 233 clinched the crown.

Who Showed Up, and What Was at Stake?

How do you stand out when everyone’s gunning for the same thing? That was the question facing the eleven teams that showed up for the Ghana Qualifier of the Carry1st Africa Cup 2025.

You had returning names like Aura 233, BraVo-6, and Echelon, all familiar to anyone who follows the West African CODM scene. Then there were newer squads like 31-KNOT ESPORTS and The Knights, eager to prove they belonged at this level. Teams like OreForge, ZUUD, Nova, and Phoenix Elite – phx rounded out the bracket, each hoping to upset the hierarchy and maybe catch fire at just the right time.

Here’s a concise list of the teams in the order they finished in the tournament:

  1. Aura 233
  2. 31-KNOT ESPORTS
  3. BraVo-6
  4. The Knights
  5. Nova
  6. ZUUD
  7. Echelon
  8. CODEX
  9. OreForge
  10. Phoenix Elite – phx
  11. TD Titans

Group Stage Highlights

The journey began with a round-robin group stage that ran from June 6 to June 8. The eleven participating teams were split into two groups, and each team faced everyone in their group in best-of-five series. These early matches set the tone and determined seeding for the playoffs. From the very first round, it was clear that some squads meant business.

Aura 233 wasted no time showing their class. They swept through their group stage matches with ease. Each of their opponents fell 0–3 to Aura 233, whether it was Echelon or Phoenix Elite or any other challenger. By the end of the group phase, Aura 233 had a pristine record: four matches played, four matches won, with a combined map count of 12 maps won and 0 lost. It’s rare to see such dominance at this stage. It left everyone wondering if any team could slow them down.

Over in the other group, 31-KNOT ESPORTS quickly established themselves as the team to beat. Much like Aura 233, 31-KNOT ran through their group with an undefeated record. They showcased strong coordination and gunskill that set them apart from their peers. The Knights and Nova also put up solid fights in that group, securing enough wins to advance. Meanwhile, a few teams struggled to find their footing. Phoenix Elite (phx) in particular had a rough time, losing all their group matches without taking a single map. It was a learning experience for them. For other teams, the group stage was a chance to shine before the real gauntlet began.

By the conclusion of the group stage, the top teams from each group had earned prime seeding for the playoffs. Aura 233 looked unstoppable, and 31-KNOT ESPORTS wasn’t far behind. But as any esports fan knows, the playoffs are a different beast where one slip-up can end a championship dream. With the bracket set, Ghana’s best prepared to face off in the double-elimination playoffs starting June 14.

Playoff Bracket Thrills and Upsets

The playoff stage brought a double-elimination bracket featuring the leading teams from the groups (with a few byes to fill out a 16-slot bracket). Every match was a best-of-five series (except the grand final, which would be best-of-seven). The stakes were high. One loss wouldn’t knock a team out immediately, thanks to the safety net of the lower bracket, but there was little room for mistakes.

In the first round of the upper bracket, the higher-seeded teams made quick work of their opposition. Aura 233, sitting as the #1 seed, received a bye and watched as others fought for survival. BraVo-6, another strong team from Aura’s group, won their opener decisively. The Knights (the #4 seed) also advanced. Early on, no major upsets occurred, but the intensity was building.

Things got really interesting in the upper bracket semifinals. Aura 233 finally got to play, and they picked up right where they left off by sweeping TD Titans 3–0. On the other side of the bracket, 31-KNOT ESPORTS faced BraVo-6 in a showdown of two group runners-up. This match delivered one of the tournament’s first surprises:

BraVo-6 managed to defeat 31-KNOT ESPORTS in a solid 3–1 series. It was a bit of an upset considering 31-KNOT’s strong group performance. BraVo-6’s coordination seemed to catch 31-KNOT off guard. The loss sent 31-KNOT tumbling down to the lower bracket, a wake-up call that they would have to fight even harder to reach the final.

With that upset, the upper bracket final was set between Aura 233 and BraVo-6. Aura 233 continued their absolute tear through the competition by blanking BraVo-6 with yet another 3–0 victory. It was a statement win that secured Aura 233’s spot in the grand final. BraVo-6, despite the loss, wasn’t done yet. They dropped into the lower bracket final for another chance, while Aura 233 got to sit back and await their final challenger.

Meanwhile, in the lower bracket, a fierce battle was unfolding. 31-KNOT ESPORTS, determined to redeem themselves, began carving through the opposition in the do-or-die bracket. They took out TD Titans with a convincing 3–0 win, then went on to sweep Nova 3–0 as well. Nova had impressed many with a couple of elimination match wins of their own (knocking out Phoenix Elite and ZUUD earlier in the lower bracket), but they couldn’t stand up to 31-KNOT’s momentum. With each lower bracket round, 31-KNOT seemed to grow more focused and lethal, eliminating one team after another.

One of the most anticipated rematches came in the lower bracket final, where 31-KNOT ESPORTS met BraVo-6 once again. BraVo-6 had handed 31-KNOT their only loss in the upper bracket, so this was a chance at revenge. Despite BraVo-6’s confidence, 31-KNOT came into this rematch on fire. In an intense series, 31-KNOT defeated BraVo-6 3–1, knocking them out of the tournament. BraVo-6 secured a strong third-place finish, but it was 31-KNOT ESPORTS who earned the right to face Aura 233 in the grand final.

The narrative was set: the top seed versus a resilient contender who had fought all the way through the lower bracket. Ghana’s CODM fans couldn’t wait to see if the lower bracket warriors could finally hand Aura 233 a loss.

Grand Final Showdown

The grand final took place on June 29 as the climax of the Ghana qualifier. Aura 233 entered the final undefeated, and because they hadn’t lost a series, no bracket reset was needed. That meant 31-KNOT ESPORTS would have to beat Aura 233 in a best-of-seven showdown to claim the title, whereas Aura 233 needed just one series win. It all came down to this one match, streamed online for the community. I remember holding my breath as the lobby loaded up for Map 1, hoping for a thrilling contest.

Once the games began, Aura 233 showed zero signs of slowing down. They opened the series with confidence and never looked back. Map after map, the team displayed superior strategy, communication, and mechanical skill. Whether it was rotating early in Hardpoint or clutching rounds in Search & Destroy, Aura 233 was always a step ahead of 31-KNOT. The underdogs in 31-KNOT played their hearts out, trying different tactics and refusing to give up, but Aura 233 simply would not be denied.

In a result that left Ghanaian fans both impressed and a little astonished, Aura 233 swept the grand final 4–0. It was an emphatic victory that underscored just how dominant they had been throughout the qualifier. 31-KNOT ESPORTS, after their valiant lower bracket run, had to settle for a runner-up finish. As the final kill was confirmed and the virtual confetti fell, Aura 233’s players celebrated on stream, having earned the title of Ghana champions.

Conclusion: Ghana’s Champions on the Road to Lagos

By the end of this qualifier, one thing was crystal clear: Aura 233 is a powerhouse in Ghana’s Call of Duty: Mobile scene. They completed the entire Ghana qualifier without dropping a single map in either group play or playoffs, a perfect run that is incredibly hard to achieve.

This dominant performance cements Aura 233 as the team to watch from Ghana. They’ll now carry the flag for Ghana at the Carry1st Africa Cup 2025 Finals in Lagos, where they’ll face other regional champions from across Africa. The stakes will be even higher there, with continental bragging rights and possibly a spot in the World Championship on the line.

For 31-KNOT ESPORTS, the runner-up finish showed that they are a force to be reckoned with as well. Their resilience and grit in the lower bracket won them a lot of respect. For teams like BraVo-6, Nova, and others who made deep runs, the tournament provided invaluable experience. Even squads that bowed out early, like Phoenix Elite, learned from competing at this level. The level of competition in Ghana is clearly rising.

Now, all eyes turn to Lagos for the Africa Cup Finals. Can Aura 233 replicate their dominance against the best teams from other regions? Ghana will be cheering them on, hoping to see our champions make us proud on the biggest stage. One thing’s for sure: after witnessing the Ghana qualifiers, we know that this team has the skill, teamwork, and confidence to take on anyone. Good luck to Aura 233 in the finals, and kudos to every player and team that participated in making the Ghana qualifier a thrilling ride from start to finish.
