Something big is happening this year in Call of Duty: Mobile. For the first time ever, African players are officially in the mix for the COD Mobile World Championship 2025.

That’s right. This is the year the playing field finally opens up, with a global $1 million prize pool and a format (that includes both Open and Legendary divisions) that actually gives anyone a shot. From aspiring pro players to casual players with dreams of more, this might be your time.

Let’s break down how to qualify, what’s new, and why this year’s tournament is different, and maybe even better, than any before.

QUICK BREAKDOWN: Players from across the continent can now compete in the same global brackets as North America, Europe, LATAM, and Asia. CODM Esports just got a lot more global, and that’s long overdue.

Why This Year Is Different (And Bigger)

Africa’s inclusion this year isn’t just a line on a blog post; it changes the scope of the Call of Duty Mobile Tournament 2025 in a huge way. Besides the cash (which is a huge motivator), this year's tournament is the most inclusive we’ve seen. African players finally get the opportunity to play competitively without regional workarounds or third-party qualifiers.

From Cape Town to Nairobi to Lagos, players can now form teams, compete fairly, and aim for the same prize as teams from the US or Europe.

How to Compete in the Call of Duty Mobile Tournament 2025

If you want in, the first step is knowing the format. You don’t need a team (yet). You just need a phone and skills. The tournament has five stages, and everyone starts from the same place:

Stage 1: Solo Qualifier – Starts April 25, 2025

Open to everyone. Begin your CODM Mobile World Championship journey by playing ranked multiplayer matches to earn points. Reach 50 points to advance to the next stage.

Stage 2: Team Qualifier – Starts June 4, 2025

Once you're qualified, you'll need to form a squad of 5 to 6 players who also cleared Stage 1. Your team gets 30 ranked matches to post the best average score possible (your team's average rank determines your score). The top 64 teams per region move forward.

Stage 3: Regional Qualifiers – Starts July 6, 2025

Now it gets competitive. In this round, teams compete in regional double-elimination tournaments. Only the strongest 16 teams in each region go through to the next stage.

Stage 4: Regional Finals – Starts July 26, 2025

This stage uses a Best-of-5, double-elim format again. Only two teams (the top 2) per region will advance to the big stage: the World Championship Finals.

Stage 5: World Championship Finals

Now, we’re on to the grand finale. Details are still under wraps, but expect a high-production event featuring the best teams from each region on the planet, all chasing the title and a share of the $1 million prize pool.

Tournament Format Basics

Divisions

There are two divisions to look out for this year:

  • Open Division: in this bracket, anyone of any skill level and rank can qualify. Players in this division also get to earn COD Points and FACEIT Points. According to the official roadmap reveal video, the rewards will be closely aligned with performance and skill levels.

  • Legendary Division: as the name implies, reserved for the top dogs; the top-tier talent (legendary players and grandmasters) from Stage 2 and up.

*FACEIT Points (FP) are the virtual currency used on the FACEIT platform, a competitive gaming service for titles like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Overwatch 2. Players earn FP by participating in various activities, such as tournaments, missions, and ladders. These points can be redeemed in the FACEIT Shop for items like in-game cosmetics, gaming gear, and esports merchandise.

Match Format

Each match in the later stages follows a Best-of-5 format, which is as follows:

Hardpoint → Search & Destroy → Control → Hardpoint → Search & Destroy

The tournament will feature three primary game modes. Here’s the map pool:

  • Hardpoint: Summit, Apocalypse, Hacienda, Slums, Combine

  • Search & Destroy: Tunisia, Firing Range, Kurohana Metropolis, Standoff, Coastal

  • Control: Raid, Takeoff, Crossfire

All participating teams will engage in a veto process to determine the specific maps and sides for each match.

And remember, no tablets or external controllers are allowed.
